From the Atacama Desert to the Rocky Mountains, from the dunes of Dubai to the open plains of Australia, the Toyota FJ Land Cruiser stands alone as the most reliable, long-lasting, and nearly unbreakable vehicle that gets you anywhere you need to be.
The BJ25 was Japan’s answer to the American Jeep and the British Land Rover. There’s really no sugar coating it: Toyota reverse-engineered the Jeep and perfected it within a decade. By the time the US started placing orders for the FJ to assist in the Korean War, the FJ had grown into the sturdy 44 we know and still love today. From 1955 through 1984, the FJ improved piece by piece, but still managed to maintain its now-iconic look and feel.
Pack your camping gear, grab some extra propane, maybe a better sleeping bag, your fishing gear and the raft the don’t forget the groover, we are going to get a little mud on the tires. This consignment is a 1 owner, well documented maintenance records, babied 4-wheeler with plenty of potential and life left to go explore the wilds of the USofA.
Exterior
With the rugged aero look to this Hummer-esque 4-wheeler, all is looking good on the exterior. Bathed in Iceberg White, and peppered with black accenting, bumpers, wheel surrounds and window trimmings it has a rugged look and high stance. We can see a $1,500 black-out package has been installed by the dealer. With close set front headlights and some retro styling harkening back to the FJ40 of the 1960’s thrown in for good measure. Tinted glass and large 17-inch wheels with 265-70/R17’s on all 4 corners you’ll have the chops to take on ruts, steep muddy hills or just about any adventure you can conjure up. It will perform just as nicely on a trip to drop off the kids at soccer practice too. A main door with a clamshell opening smaller door right behind you can sneak by the B pillar and have access to the rear seats. On the back is a wide swinging rear door gives you plenty of space to load all your gear. Voila!
Interior
With the clamshell doors all buttoned up for the elements and molded to perfection, even the speaker covers are waterproof. In front the newly vertical dash hands off faux metal looking panels with black accenting and emphasis in rugged and smoothed over lines to keep out dirt from any cracks and crevices. The instrument cluster is within a rounded carved out niche in front of the steering wheel and features white faced gauges on a dark background. In the center is a rugged faux metal panel which houses the AM/FM/Single CD player and temp and fan round knobs for controls. The passengers are treated to black cloth insert high back buckets with smooth black bolsters in vinyl, again emphasis on easy cleanup after your foray in the wilds. A rear bench is in back, same covering, and way back is a neat storage area to put all your gear. All flooded with clean black carpet below and a gray headliner above featuring side visors for the front passengers.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is an all clean and well documented maintenance 4.0 liter V6. This healthy 6-cylinder is fed by EFI and has a 5-speed automatic on back, with a 3.72 rear axle. Looking good under the hood!
Undercarriage
This one owner really did baby this truck and it shows underneath with just spotty surface rust throughout. Aluminum coverings for the transmission case and bottom end of the engine, there is slight corrosion noted. Upfront double wishbone independent suspension rides over rocks like they are pebbles, and on back a 4 link with coil springs does the same. Power disc brakes are all around.
Drive-Ability
A quick startup and it was off to the mountains of Morgantown (well at least our test track) where it performed flawlessly. All functions were working just swimmingly, including an off track excursion to test the 4 x 4 which also worked like a charm. Nice comfortable cruise too, so you can be assured of a good ride even if it is on a paved surface.
